City of Gassville

Located in Baxter County in north central Arkansas, between the towns of Mountain Home and Harrison, Gassville is a progressive city with a population of 2,171 people (2020 U.S. Census).

Gassville has the amenities of a larger city while retaining a hometown, community atmosphere. People often choose Gassville for convenience. Gassville is ideally located near the world-famous White River and is within easy daily commuting distance to other nearby cities. US Hwy. 412/62 runs directly through the town, providing quick access for commuters.

The town has a thriving economy with the largest manufacturer, American Stitchco, employing over 90 persons at its Gassville location. A variety of businesses serve Gassville residents and visitors including grocery and discount stores, service businesses, banks, and many types of restaurants.

Gassville provides the quality of life and services that are not necessarily expected of a city its size. Gassville has a police department with four full-time officers and four part-time officers; a volunteer fire department with a full-time chief and many volunteer firemen; and a Public Works staff of eight who maintain the city water system, streets, city parks, and waste water treatment facility.

The history of Gassville dates to the 1840s. Incorporated in 1903, Gassville gets its name from Mr. P.A. Cox, an 1800s postmaster who was known to be a talker and was referred to by others to be a "gasser" which led to the town's name.* It remains the only town named Gassville in the United States.
